In this Special Report we review over 175 South African wines that sell for under $20 in the U.S. Many of these wines offer exceptional quality for the price. Most of these wines are widely distributed and sold in supermarkets as well as fine wine stores.

Report #30: The Wines of South Africa

Wines of South AfricaSouth Africa has been making world class wines for three hundred years. Today it makes some of the world's best Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Red Blends and, of course, Pinotage. In this report we examine the progress of South African wine over the past quarter century. We find some amazing wines and great wine values. Over 750 wines evaluated in total. This report focuses on premiere wines; a special report on value wines will be issued later.

Sweet Wines of South Africa (Updated)

South African Sweet WineIn this report we report the results of our tasting of over 20 sweet wines falling into four principal categories: 1) botrytis affected, 2) wine from dried grapes, 3) late harvest wines, and 4) fortified wines. We find a number of exemplary wines that compete with the best European sweet wines. This is an update of the South African wines we reviewed for Report #27 Sweet Wines of the World.

South African Sparkling Wine (Updated)

South African Sparkling WineThe World of Sparkling Wines and Champagnes, so we went out of our way to taste as many as we could find during our recent trip to the Western Cape. In this report, we provide our impressions of over 30 of the best South African sparkling wines we've tasted. MCC truly is South Africa's hidden treasure in a bottle.
