Tongue Dancer Wines: New 2018 Releases from Sonoma County

Tongue Dancer Wines is a small project started with the 2013 vintage by James and Kerry MacPhail, past owners of MacPhail Family Wines in Healdsburg, CA. The MacPhails are passionate about Pinot Noir, and this project continues their fascination with the grape. James MacPhail has been crafting wine for more than 20 years. The name of the winery Tongue Dancer Wines is a reflection of his keen interest in wines with great texture and taste.

These three wines from the outstanding 2018 vintage are meticulously crafted like many of James MacPhail’s other wines we have tasted.  In addition to their lovely mouthfeel, the wines exhibit elegance and excellent concentration.  As in previous years, Tongue Dancer Wines are sourced from outstanding vineyards such as Bacigalupi and Putnam.

These wines are sold by mailing list and online only at

Tongue Dancer Wines 2018 Chardonnay Bacigalupi Vineyard Russian River ($50) 93  This Chardonnay is sourced from one of the finest vineyards in Russian River Valley. It is a beautiful wine, both crisp and delicious with hints of honeysuckle, apple and citrus on the nose and palate. It is perfectly balanced with excellent acidity and has a long finish.

Tongue Dancer Wines 2018 Pinot Noir “The Sly One” Sonoma Coast  90 ( sold out)  The Pinot Noir “Sly One” is a mouth filling and slightly earthy Pinot Noir offering aromas of red berry fruit and a hint of spice. On the palate it reveals good acidity, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherry and a firm finish. A solid generic Pinot Noir.

Tongue Dancer Wines 2018 Pinot Noir Pinot de Ville Sonoma Coast ($66) 93  The 2018 “Pinot de Ville” Pinot Noir Putnam Vineyard exhibits deep and dark red berry fruit aromas and flavors. It is ripe and full in the mouth with good density and weight and has a long lovely finish. Clearly the best Pinot Noir crafted by this producer.
