Failla Spring Releases: 2016 Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah

These 2016 spring releases are a welcome collection of new California and Oregon bottlings from the talented winemaker Ehren Jordan and wife Anne-Marie Failla.  The 2016 vintage in California was a welcome relief from drought with a mild spring followed by a warm, steady growing season.   The vintage in Oregon’s Willamette Valley was short and early yet produced clean and ripe fruit. See our reviews below.

These new releases from the 2016 vintage are beautifully balanced with excellent aromatics, flavor and refinement.   The Chardonnays from the Hudson and Haynes vineyards showed good density of flavor and persistence on the finish.  The Pinot Noirs from the Sonoma Coast  provide freshness and crisp acidity, typical of the cool climate wines from the coastal terroir.  The other  vineyard designated Pinot Noirs from the Russian River Valley and Anderson Valley also exhibited ripeness and maturity of flavor with noteworthy balance and acidity.  The Syrah, which is somewhat unique in flavor, offers lovely richness of red and black fruit flavor with a hint of black olive.
