Blair Estate: 2013 Pinot Noirs from Arroyo Seco

Blair Pinot NoirThis is our first opportunity to review the Pinot Noirs of Blair Estate.  Owner, Jeffrey Blair, established this micro- winery a few years ago in Arroyo Seco and began producing excellent premium Chardonnays and Pinot Gris.  The Pinot Noirs are a welcome addition to his portfolio as we note in our reviews below.  These Pinot Noirs from the Delfina  Vineyard, offer ripe concentrated red fruit with hints of spice and bramble.  They are beautifully sculpted, flavorful, and a pleasure to drink.

Blair Estate 2013 Pinot Noir  “Delfina’s Vineyard”  Arroyo Seco ($45) 91  The 2913 Pinot Noir offers fragrant aromas of ripe cherry. On the palate it reveals more ripe concentrated red berry fruit with a touch of spice and bramble. Soft and lush on the palate, it has an excellent mouth feel, good balance, and a persistent finish.

Blair Estate 2013 Pinot Noir Reserve “Delfina’s Vineyard”  Arroyo Seco ($75) 92    The Blair Estate Pinot Noir Delfina’s Vineyard displays a light ruby color and fragrant aromas of red berry and pomegranate fruit and oak.  On the palate it reveals rich concentration of red berry flavors, spice, and light toast. It has a lovely texture, ripe tannins, excellent balance with crisp acidity, and a long finish. A touch more intense than the regular Pinot Noir which is quite good also.
