Pierre Sparr: 2010 Selections from Alsace

Domain Pierre Sparr is one of Alsace’s largest producers of premium wines.  Established in 1680, its portfolio today consists of a variety of outstanding wines from single vineyard grand cru and reserve cuvées to single varietal entry level wines for everyday drinking.  These four wines from the 2010 vintage are from their entry level collection and are good values for the price.   Importer: WJ Deutsch & Sons White Plains, NY


 Pierre Sparr 2010 Alsace One Alsace ($13) 87+   This bottling is a blend of 40% Muscat, 40% Riesling, and 20% Pinot Gris. It reveals a perfumy nose of ripe passion fruit followed by a creamy palate with good acidity and a dry fruity finish. A wine to enjoy with Asian cuisine.

Pierre Sparr 2010 Pinot Blanc Reserve Alsace ($14) 88+ Medium straw in color, this Pinot Blanc exhibits ripe lemony aromas on the nose that are mirrored on the palate. It is mouth filling with hints of citrus and herbs and has a long sustaining finish.

Pierre Sparr 2010 Pinot Gris Alsace ($18) 88  The Sparr Pinot Gris offers aromas of green apple and dried herbs. On the palate it reveals good acidity with a round mouth feel and a crisp dry finish.

Pierre Sparr 2010  Riesling Alsace ($14) 87 This medium light straw-colored Riesling exhibits aromas of orchard fruit followed by light flavors of apple and pear. It offers moderate acidity on the palate with a crisp pleasant finish.
