The Wines

Fiuminello Vineyard in Monte Genuardo

Di Giovanna 2017 Grillo Sicilia DOC ($19) 89  Showing alluring almond and citrus scents, the Grillo reveals a medium weight palate with integrated fruit and dried herbal tea flavors and has an appealing interplay between fruit and acidity.  An organic wine (European certified), the Di Giovanna Grillo has sufficient weight and richness to pair with fowl and white meats. Sourced from the 450m high Paradiso Vineyard in Contessa Entellina.

Di Giovanna 2018 Vurria Rosato di Nerello Mascalese Terre Siciliane IGP ($17) 91 Nerello Mascalese makes great rosé, and Di Giovanna’s copper orange Rosato doesn’t disappoint.  Sourced from estate vineyards in Contessa Entellina, this is a very attractive, floral rosé that reveals rose petals on the nose and flavors of blood orange and raspberry on a dry but expressive palate. It has a stony mineral like finish with lingering citrus notes.

Di Giovanna 2016 Siciiani Rosso Riserva Naturale Monte Genuardo Terre Siciliane IGP ($13) 91  We love this Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot led red blend, and it’s an outstanding value! Showing dark cherry and smoky underbrush on the nose, the Rosso Riserva reveals medium plus density on the palate with plum, tobacco and notes of red fruit.  Finishes dry with good persistence.  Sourced from three high altitude vineyards in Sambuca di Sicilia. A blend of 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 15% Nero d’Avola, and 15% Syrah.

Di Giovanna  2017 Siciliani Nero d’Avola Riserva Naturale Monte Genuardo Terre Siciliane ($13) 89 Brooding dark fruit on the nose complemented by hints of tobacco and black olive. Soft on the attack, earthy dark red fruit shows on a fruit forward palate. The tannins are round yet firm, and the aftertaste is prolonged. 100% Nero d’Avola.

Di Giovanna 2015 Helios Rosso Terre Siciliane IGP ($29) 91The Helios Rosso offers earthy aromas of plum and dried herbs and flavors that follow suit with attractive nuances of licorice and tobacco. Ready to drink now with gentle tannins and a softer structure than the 2014 vintage of this wine.  A blend of 70% Nero d’Avola and 30% Syrah.
