Sarah’s Vineyard was founded in 1978. It is tucked away in the southwestern part of the Santa Clara Valley where a coastal micro climate provides ideal growing conditions for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyard is situated on a south-facing slope with different elevations and is planted with several clonal selections of Pinot Noir including a Proprietary clone. These selections are exemplary bottlings of Santa Clara Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Tim Slater, a successful Silicon Valley engineer, purchased Sarah’s Vineyard in 2001. He has a winemaker’s certificate from UC Davis, and serves as winemaker with a winemaking assistant.
Sarah’s Vineyard 2014 “Madonne Blanc” Santa Clara Valley ($32) 89 The 2014 “Madonne Blanc” is a blend of 70% Rousanne, 14% Grenache Blanc, 10% Viognier, and 6% Picpoul Blanc. Yellow straw in color it displays notes of caramel and hazelnut on the nose. It shows stone fruit with light tropical notes and notes of dulce de leche. It shows good acidity and finishes with excellent length A tasting room exclusive.
Sarah’s Vineyard 2015 Chardonnay Santa Clara Valley ($20) 92 Ripe and fresh tasting tropical fruit with hints of hazelnut and minerals are revealed in this lovely 2015 Chardonnay. Barrel fermented, it is beautifully focused and precise in the mouth with a rich mouth feel, vibrant acidity and extract.
Sarah’s Vineyard 2013 “Madonne” Santa Clara Valley ($32) 89 The 2013 “Madonne” is a spicy dark fruited blend of 70% Grenache, 12% Syrah, 8% Mourvedre, 6% Carignane, and 4% Caunoise. Fermented at low temperatures in small lot vats, and aged 16 months in used barrels (105 new) it reveals a soft mouth feel, rich red berry fruit flavors, and a very dry finish. Sarah’s Vineyard 2015 Pinot Noir Santa Clara Valley ($25) 90 This delicious Pinot Nor offers a fruity dark red and plum nose and a spicy and silky mouth feel. Although It reveals pure flavor, it is somewhat modest and restrained on the palate.. Not as complex as some Pinot Noirs, but savory.
Sarah’s Vineyard 2014 Pinot Noir Reserve Santa Clara County ($60) 92 This Pinot Noir Reserve displays a spicy palate with ripe dark red fruit and rich toasted oak. There is lots of wood and spice here in a ripe style that makes this wine delicious and satisfying. Perfectly balanced with excellent acidity and round tannins, it is a bold-flavored elegant Pinot Noir perfect for tuna, duck and other savory dishes.
