David Fulton’s Extraordinary 2010 Petite Sirah

David Fulton 2010  Old Vine Petite Sirah   Napa Valley  ($48) 95

david_fulton1-300x269The David Fulton  2010 Old Vine Petite Sirah is an extraordinary wine  and is probably the finest Petite Sirah produced by this estate in recent years.

The 2010 boasts a beautiful opaque purple color and rich and complex aromas of black berry, cassis  and chocolate. It has a soft velvet texture, and layers of flavor with remarkable purity and silky smooth tannins.  Bold yet elegant and refined, this wine is ready to drink but will provide drinking pleasure over the next 7 to 10 years.

David Fulton’s Petite Sirah is sourced from an old family estate vineyard established  in St. Helena in 1860, by the great-grandfather of the current owner, Fulton Mather.  One of the oldest vineyards in California,   David Fulton’s old vines are dry farmed on alluvial and volcanic soils and produce small quantities of grapes sufficient for only 400 cases of this remarkable wine.

David Fulton’s 2010 Old Vine Petite Sirah is a  reference point for the variety and we highly recommend it to our readers.   It can be purchased on line from the winery at www.davidfultonwinery.com
