Girasole Vineyards produces certified organic wines from grapes grown on the benchlands of Redwood Valley in the Mendocino AVA. The vineyards belong to grower Charlie Barra, the son of Italian immigrants, who has farmed some 200 acres of organic varietal wines since the mid-1950s. The wines are made by winemaker Jason Welch who also follows Vegan friendly guidelines when making his wines– no animal products such as egg-whites are used in making the wines. Girasole Vineyards 2010 Chardonnay Mendocino ($13) 87+
The Chardonnay has a lemon hue and offers aromas of green apples and citrus with hints of toasted oak. It offers a light creamy palate with fresh fruit flavor, good acidity and a firm finish.
Girasole Vineyards 2010 Pinot Noir Mendocino ($16) 88+
The Pinot Noir has a pleasant bouquet of strawberry and cherry fruit and hints of light toast. It has a silky palate and fresh red berry flavors. It is an easy drinking wine to consume with a meal or by the glass.
